In-sensor fusion has emerged as an important development for perception systems. By distributing perception capabilities to the edge of the network, critical real-time information—including object classification, dimensionality and velocity—can be obtained at the point of acquisition, streamlining AV path-planning and decision-making. This talk will explore edge perception’s role in reducing latency, lowering costs, and securing functional safety.
A 20+ year aerospace executive with deep experience in LiDAR and electro-optics, Dr. Behnken most recently served as an engineering fellow for Emerging Laser Technologies at Raytheon, where he led the development, engineering, integration, and field testing of new DARPA imaging technologies. Prior to Raytheon, he was the deputy director for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, where he also acted as physicist and program manager for the Air Force Space Command. Dr. Behnken holds an MBA from UC Berkeley, a PhD in Optical Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School, an MS in Applied Physics from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and a BS in Applied Physics from the United States Air Force Academy.
